He enlisted 10th Light Horse A squadron on 6 October 1914. He departed from Freemantle 8 February 1915 and returned to Australia 17 September 1916.
He was the son of the late John Norrish -1848–1892 and Margaret Elizabeth Norrish [nee Noonan ] 1850–1930 of Kojonup.

His brother Lt John William Norrish (Service No 2970) and two of his nephews Troopers Raymond Richard Norrish and Joseph William Norrish (Service No 3306) were also in the 10th LHR. Raymond died of TB In Cairo but Joe and John William arrived home safely.
Frederick became Ill on the transport to Egypt and developed TB. He was evacuated to Australia and sent to Worooloo Sanitarium but died shortly after on 5 April 1916.
