Arthur Robert Murray
Arthur Robert Murray was born at Rosedale, near Ipswich Qld, and was one of the land selectors at Tarong in 1908. With his brother David, he drove a herd of cattle which he owned, from Rosedale to his new property (3667 Kingaroy-Cooyar Rd Maidenwell). They built boundary fences and a small slab hut.
Life was very hard, and as there was as yet no income from the property, he was forced to seek employment to remain financial. He worked for brothers, Jack and Paddy Bishop. The farm was just becoming productive when WW1 broke out.
Arthur enlisted in the AIF and left an old friend, Mr Moore, as caretaker on his farm. He also became engaged to marry Edna Taylor. After training in England, he served in France and was later invalided home.
On his return he built a little cottage on his property, and he and Edna Taylor were married. They had seven children - Muriel (Kingaroy, Mrs Lisle Walker), Jim (Dagon, Gympie, married Marjory Fisher), Gwen (Gladstone, married Stan Walker), Frank (Byee, Married Ivy Higgs), Ron (married Melva Williams), Coral (Sydney, Mrs N. Benson), and Bevin (Cooran, married Janette Wendt).
In the late 1930's, a large new home was built and some years later, the family having married and moved away, Mr and Mrs Murray sold the property and bought a smaller one at Booie, working with their son Bevin. After Blevins's marriage, they retired to Norman Street Kingaroy.
