PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER SON OF JOHN & MARY STEWART OF MT. DUNEED

On Sunday last, 10th September, a memorial tablet was unveiled in the Presbyterian church, Pyramid Hill, to the memory of the late Rev. George Allen Stewart, late minister of the church. In 1911 Mr. Stewart was ordained and in ducted to the pastoral charge of Pyramid Hill, Durham Ox and Boort. In August, 1914, on the outbreak of the war, he made application to go to the front as a chaplin, and failing to receive an appointment in that capacity he resigned his charge, and enlisted a private. Though he was not a soldier by  nature or inclination, he took his duties so seriously that he earned his stripe asa non-commissioned officer. He died on 7th September, 1915, from wounds received in action. To  mark the first anniversary of his death, his congregation at Pyramid Hill have placed in the church a marble tablet, suitably inscribed, and this tablet was unveiled at the morning service in the presence of a large congregation. The choir rendered the anthem " What are these that are arrayed in white robes." The service was conducted by the Rev. F. C.  Vickerman, of Swan Hill, who preached a sermon suitable to the occasion.
