Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Gunner Edward King died of wounds at the 11th Casualty Station, France, on the 15 October 1917. Born at Avoca, Tasmania he enlisted in New South Wales in the 6th Light Horse Regiment, and saw service in Egypt. He afterwards volunteered to a Heavy Howitzer battery in France, from which he was transferred to a Heavy Trench Mortar Brigade, and while serving with this he received wounds in the thigh and throat which resulted in his death. He was a son of Sergeant John King, formerly of the 21st Royal Scotch Fusiliers, and later of the Police Force at Avoca and St. Marys, who had passed away in 1901 and of the late Mrs. Bridget King, of Tasmania who had died during 1914.
