83 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 7th September 1937, Private Mozart Aquila Phillips, 35th Battalion (Reg No-58837), musician from 216 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra, New South Wales and 6 Oliver Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 45. METHODIST 3 (UNITING) I. 21.

Born at Fitzroy North, Victoria on the 10th June 1894 to Moses and Amelia May Phillips nee Sims of 34 Waterloo Street, Surry Hills, N.S.W. and 19 Cleary Street, Hamilton, N.S.W.; husband of Violet Sadie Phillips nee ? (married?, died?), Mozart enlisted August 1914 with the 4th Battalion at Randwick, N.S.W.

For reasons unknown, Mozart reenlisted April 1918 with the 10th General Service (N.S.W.) Reinforcements at Darlinghurst, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital at sea 4.8.1918 (tonsillitis), 21.3.1919 (acute pharyngitis), Mr Phillips returned home April 1919, being discharged medically unfit with epilepsy on the 4th January 1920.

Mozart’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not located inscribed on any other known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.
