Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Percival John Rogers was the son of George Edward and Mary Rogers and had been born at Williamstown in Victoria. His mother had passed away when he was only about five years of age. His brother, 955 Private William Jules Rogers 13th Australian Machine Gun Company was also killed in action six months later in March 1917.

He enlisted in Brisbane, Queensland, during August 1914 and left Australia two months later with the first contingent men, as a member of the 9th Battalion. He took part in the Anzac Landing and was wounded in action in that first day of fighting for the Australians. He was evacuated to Egypt and rejoined his unit on Gallipoli during July 1915 for a second tour, being evacuated sick at the end of November 1915.

He transferred to the 49th Battalion during the reorganisation of the AIF in Egypt during early 1916.

He was killed in action during the heavy fighting in the Australians last assault on Mouquet Farm in September 1916.
