He was 34/36 and the son of John and Jane Ann Speirs, of 6, Gladstone St., Blyth, Northumberland, England.
A J.J. Speirs is commemorated on the Blyth War Memorial; it is quite confidently believed to be this relates to Jack Speirs.
Enlistment date-13 October 1915-Private-20th Battalion, 8th Reinforcement-Unit from Nominal Roll-14th Light Trench Mortar Battery
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 20 December 1915-he was then aged 33.
