Biography

Son of James and Bridget Lavercombe

Born in Ravenswood, John enlisted in Townsville 14 December 1914 at the age of 24.  He was a miner by trade.  He embarked 13 February 1915 for active service at Galliopoli where he was killed in action at Gaba Tepe 28 June 1915 and was buried in Shell Green Cemetery, Gallipoli.

He was a brother to Thomas Lavercombe 2058.

"Mr. M. Lavercombe was also advised by wire to-day that his nephew Jack, had been killed in action in the Dardanelles. Deceased was a Winton native, though enlisting from Cloncurry." - from the Townsville Daily Bulletin 09 Aug 1915 (nla.gov.au)
