Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

He was born James Percival Richmond, son of Joseph and Annie Little Richmond, in 1891 at Guildford, WA (source WA BDM) – not Canning Mills. His father, mother and sister lived in Bridgetown from about 1915 and he may have lived in Bridgetown for a short while before enlisting. He was a frequent and well-known visitor to the town thereafter when visiting his sister.

For reasons unknown, Richmond enlisted under the name of Percy James RICHOND. He deliberately signed his attestation this way. Confusion reigns throughout the attestation document with constant corrections to his name as JP, PJ, Richond, Richmond, etc.

FALL FROM M0T0R LORRY
Fatality at Mullewa
Constable Doogue, of Mullewa, telephoned to Perth today concerning . the eath of John Percival Richmond, at Mullewa on1 Saturday. Richmond) fell from a motor lorry and died at 3 a.m. yesterday.
Richmond is believed to have been married, and police are desirous of communicating with his wioow. He had been in the district about three weeks working under the Main Roads Board. He was a returned soldier.

John Richmond, an employee on the Main Road Board's gang on the Mullewa-Geraldton road, met his death under tragic circumstances in Mullewa on Saturday night last.  It appears that Richmond boarded a motor truck driven by Mr. Les Loveridge as it moved off from the opposite the Mullewa Drug Store a few minutes after 9 p.m. with the intention evidently of riding down the street, but when rounding the curve fronting Mr. Molster's garage he overbalanced and fell to the ground.  The truck had travelled less than 100 years and was consequently at a low speed but it wa sseen that he had received serious injuries and was immediatley conveyed to the Keaton private hospital where he remained unconscious until 2.45 a.m. on Sunday morning when he crossed the Big Divide.  Deceased was a returned soldier and a married man and leaves a wife and two children in Subiaco to mourn their loss.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon and was largely attended, his late fellow-workers taking the day off in order to pay their last respects to their unfortunate friend.

The deceased had followed the Salvation Army relition and in the absence of a minister of that faith, the Rev. Vaughan officiated at the graveside.

A cluster of loving memories,
The fondest hearts can frame;
We'll wind them into a garland,
And twine them around his name.
His loving deeds of kindness will never be
forgot.
