Impressive scene at graveside
NAIRNE.
Trooper W. J. Baulderstone, of the 3rd Light Horse, who returned from Egypt about two months ago, passed away at the residence of Mr. Lever at Black Forest on Monday last.
His remains were brought to his late residence at Nairne, and on Wednesday a large number of townspeople followed the remains to the Hay Valley Cemetery, where the interment, took place. A company of returned soldiers, under Sgt. Lever, paid their last tribute to their deceased comrade by marching in front of the hearse and behind it. Tpr. Leslie Strange led a horse with full campaigning lot, its empty saddle bearing silent testimony of the rider having "gone before." The coffin,
which was draped with the Union Jack, was borne by four returned soldiers- Ptes. C. Brockmeyer, D. Lugg, and J. and W. May, an impressive scene at the graveside being the sounding of the "Last Post" by Pte. W. Heyer.
The Foresters Lodge, of which he was a member, was also represented. The Rev. B. Howland, of Woodside, conducted the burial service. Great sympathy is extended to the bereaved family, as about ten months ago the deceased's elder brother, Pte. H. Baulderstone, was killed in France.
