Henry was the third of seven children of Robert Henry Johnson (b1847 in Yea, Victoria) and Fanny Wyatt Dudley (b1842 in Launceston, Tasmania). Fanny arrived in Port Phillip Bay in 1846 on board the Swan. Robert (a Squatter) and Fanny (a Servant) married in 1868 in Alexndra in Murrundindi, Victoria where they raised thir family. Robert and Fanny moved to Stratford in Gippsland, where Robert worked as a Labourer before moving to Melbourne.

Henry was a Farmer in Murrundindi in 1890 when he married Elizabeth Anne Docking (b1868 in Yea, Victoria). By 1910 Henry was living with his brother Arthur and Sister-in-Law Lily at 'Addison' in Tambellup, Katanning, Western Australia where he was a Grazier. Elizabeth was living in Chilwell, Victoria. 

In 1915 Henry had returned to Victoria and enlisted in the AIF. He served (Private; Service No:1914) with 36th and 46th Infantry Battalions and was WiA in France in 1916. Henry was Discharged in July 1919. Brother Arthur had enlisted in WA in 1917 (Sapper; Service No:7680) and was KiA in France in November 1919.

Henry married his brother's Widow - Lily Gertrude Johnson (nee Hicken; b1882 in Lancashire, England) in 1920 and they settled at "Addison' in Tambellup, WA where Henry was a Farmer. In the early 1930s Henry and Lily moved to Muckinbudin where Henry was a Farmer until he and Lily retired to Perth in 1950. Henry died in 1955 and Lily in 1963.
