Biography

"Man Believed Drowned In George's River

SYDNEY, Friday.- Police believe a 60-year-old man was drowned in Georges River to-night. The man, Frederick Beresford Leach, of Jones-street, Concord, today went to Lugarno by bus and then hitch-hiked to Meni, where he has a week-ender. Before he left home, Leach said he would get fishing gear at the week-ender to take to Lake Illawarra for a fishing holiday. Police believe Leach was unable to start his launch at the week-ender and then decided to row to Como. His launch was found aground on rocks on the north side of the river near Como to-night with all his fishing gear intact." - from the Newcatle Morning Herald 20 Aug 1949 (nla.gov.au)
