At the time of enlistment his address was given as Callespie Street, Guildford, NSW.

Son of James Osborn and Helen (Ellen) Osborn of Whitabar, Tewkesbury, Oldbury Road, Glouces, England.

On 17 September 1919 James married Ellen Stanley in the Parish Church, Bourton-on-the-Hill, England. E.T. Murray officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 21 December 1919 aboard HT Port Napier disembarking on 10 February 1920 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
