On Friday last Canon Thomas, of Corowa, journeyed here in his motor car to convey the sad news to Mr. J. Lupton that his eldest son, Walter, had been killed in action on the 5th October 1917. The two sons of Mr. Lupton, Walter and Alfred, left here to don khaki over two years ago, and have been having a fair share of misfortune. Both had been in hospital as the result
of wounds and sickness, and had been in the trenches many times. These lads left as privates, and by dint of hard work gained stripes — Walter sergeant (killed) and Alfred corporal. The community here was much affected, and heartfelt sympathy was expressed for the aged parents.
