Private Andrew Cameron (Service No:6974) enlisted in the AIF on 2 October 1916 (he had previously been declared  unfit for Senior Cadets) and was attached to 8th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Melbourne for Devonport on 23 November 1916 on board HMAT Hororata A20. Private Cameron was hospitalised on several occasions in France with Bronchitis and Influenza, and embarked for the RTA on 13 July 1919 per HT Persic. Private Cameron was Discharged on 6 October 1919.

Born in 1985 in Bunyip Victoria, Andrew was third of eight children of John Cameron (b1866 in Ross-shire, Scotland) and Margaret (Maggie) Prudence Smythe (b1871 in Geelong, Victoria). John (a Labourer) and Maggie married in 1890 in Geelong. Victoria where they raised their family. John died in 1918.

Andrew worked as a Bricklayer in Geelong, Victoria and in 1931 married Grace Mary Ellen Scully (b1906 in London, England) - Grace had immigrated with her mother and brother Charles (her father and brother Edward had immigrated in 1912) in 1913, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Port Macquarie. Andrew and Grace settled in Geelong where they raised their family and Andrew worked as a Bricklayer. Andrew died in 1953 and Grace in 1998.
