Biography

Hugh Creagh Massy CARTER was born in 1893 in Smithfield, Sydney NSW

His parents were Patrick Worters CARTER and Sophia Amelia Massy THOMPSON

He enlisted in Sydney on 2nd September 1914 with the Australian Army - he was in the 1st Battalion, B Company - Unit embarked from Sydney on board the ship Afric on 18th October 1914

Hugh was Killed in Action between 6th & 9th August 1915 - he is buried in The Lone Pine Anzac Cemetery & also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal

Willingingly gave his life for the benefit of his comrades.
