Died on this date – 24th December…… Herbert Robert Miller was born at Hansonville, Greta, Victoria in 1895.

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 3rd March, 1916 as a 21 year old, single, Telephonist from 20 The Avenue, Windsor, Victoria.

Gunner Herbert Robert Miller, Service number 20003, embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Medic (A7) on 20th May, 1916 with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade, 20th Battery & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 18th July, 1916.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.

On 11th December, 1916 Gunner Miller was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital from 8th Field Artillery Brigade, Larkhill, Wiltshire with Bronchitis. (Gunner Miller’s Casualty Form - Active Service also recorded that he was admitted to No. 1 A.D. Hospital, Bulford with Bronchitis but no date)

Gunner Herbert Robert Miller died at 7 p.m. on 24th December, 1916 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire from Capillary Bronchitis.

He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
