Biography contributed by Rosemary Owens nee Evans

Thomas Joseph Evans was my Great Uncle. He was one of two brothers to fight in WW 1. He returned from the War a different person to the one who signed up in 1915. He fought on the Western Front spending Christmas of 1916 and 1917  in the trenches. In September 1918 was wounded and evacuated to England. He was returned to Australia and disembarked 1st February 1919.

Thomas returned to civilian life in Toowoomba and took up his former employment with the Railway. Sadly, he was always tormented by his experiences in France and became plagued by alcohol in later life. He never married, but remains a treasured uncle by the Evans Family.
