HERBERT JAMES WIGG who died on 10th May 1915 of wounds received at the Landing on Gallipoli was the son of Mr. G. H. Wigg of Caulfield. He was born at West Hampstead, London, in April 1899 and entered the School in 1901 and was in the athletic teams of 1906, 1907 and 1908. He was a splendid walker, and after walking
second in the Public School sports in 1906 was successful in 1907 and 1908. In 1908 he won the one-mile walking championship of Victoria.

On leaving School in 1909 he went in for a country life and was on " Kulki " Station. Subsequently he was overseer at Deniliquin Stud Park. On leaving there he went to Queensland with the object of taking up land, and had just returned from a long trip in the north when war broke out. He at once enlisted, and was one of the first Old
