Awarded the Military Medal
During the battalion's tour in the line near HOLLEBEKE from March 1st to 10th,1918 Sergeant Edwards acted as patrol sergeant of the Battalion. Every night during his tour he took large fighting patrols into no mans land and patrolled same for hours. This was on many occasions done under the harassing fire of the enemy's artillery and machine guns, and it was largely due to his courage and devotion to duty that no mans land was completely in the hands of our patrols during this period. On the night 13th/14th March ,1918 when assisting the patrol's officer, in charge of a large fighting patrol that met with heavy opposition ,Sgt. Edwards displayed great courage in leading his men forward and later in helping a wounded man from the enemy's wire'
