Died on this date – 17th August…… Private Clifford James Roach was born at Upper Liffey, Tasmania in 1895. His mother (Clara Ellen Roach) died in 1909 & his father (William Barry Roach) died in 1915.

Clifford James Roach enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 26th February, 1916 as a 20 year old, single, Labourer from Launceston, Tasmania. Clifford had previously been rejected as unfit for His Majesty’s Service due to his Teeth.

Private Clifford James Roach embarked from Hobart, Tasmania on HMAT Berrima (A35) on 1st July, 1916 with the 10th Infantry Brigade, 40th Infantry Battalion, “B” Company.

Private Clifford James Roach died on 17th August, 1916 at Sea on board HMAT Berrima (A35) from Pneumonia.

He was buried at Sea on 17th August, 1916 & is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton, Hampshire, England as he has no grave. His death is acknowledged by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
