Son of Ellen Rebecca Vincent of  Lock Street, St Peters, SA formerly of Mayfair Street, Maylands, SA.

Served a five year apprenticeship with C.A. Smith & Co. of Adelaide.

Commenced return to Australia on 2 January 1919 aboard HT Berrima disembarking on 17 February 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide.
