Son of Colin Gordon Ogilvie and Louisa Ogilvie of Grahamstown, via Tumut, NSW.

Husband of Alice Rose Ogilvie nee Weatherly of Blythe Vale, Catford Hill, London, England. Roderick and Alice married on 23 May 1917 in the Parish Church, St. George, Perry Hill, England. Vicar J.H. Wesley Kane officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 7 January 1919 aboard SS Lapland via America at his own expense then transhipped on 4 February 1919 from San Francisco aboard SS Ventura on 25 February 1919.
