Allan George Stanley was born on September 6th, 1899 to his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Stanley in Eden Valley, South Australia. He attended Forreston Primary School and originally worked as a Farmer before the War in Gawler, South Australia. Before the war began he was single and attended the Church of England.

Allan George Stanley made the decision to enlist in the Army on the 24th July 1916 at the age of 18. He was assigned to the 48th Battalion and embarked on the HMAT Anchises from Adelaide 28th August 1916.
