Son of the late Henry Wilgris Ottaway and Annie Ottaway nee Scott of Leith, Scotland.

Commenced return to Australia from Toranto on 8 October 1918 then transhipped at Suez on 20 October 1918 aboard HT Port Sydney disembarking on 2 December 1918 at Melbourne.

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

During 1919c William married Kathleen Mary Plant in Victoria
