A tram conductor from Eaglehawk, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Jenkins embarked with the 14th Reinforcements, 29th Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Ulysses on 22 December1917.

On 9 August 1918 he was killed in action and buried in the nearby vicinity. His remains were later exhumed and re-interred in the Heath Cemetery, Picardie, France.
