War service: Egypt, England, France (post-Armistice) Examined on board troopship, 30 October 1914; found to be suffering from primary syphilis; discharge recommended. Attached to 13th Light Horse Regiment, 12 February 1915. Transferred to Army Service Corps Motor Transport Section, 1 October 1915, renumbered 15 and mustered as Driver. Joined Motor Transport Section, Gamrah, 31 December 1915. Promoted Corporal, 8 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria, 11 May 1916; taken on strength, Australian Motor Transport Section, Chelsea, England, 12 August 1916. Appointed Cadet, 4 October 1917; transferred to Australian Flying Corps Administrative Headquarters, 5 October 1917. Posted to Royal Air Force Armament School, Uxbridge, 27 April 1918. Taken on strength, 6th Training Squadron, 31 May 1918. Marched out (Corporal Cadet) to Australian Flying Corps Depot, Wendover, 28 August 1918. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 6 September 1918; discharged to Convalescent Training Depot, Parkhouse, 5 October 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 30 days. Relinquished appointment as Cadet, 24 September 1918, and struck off strength of AFC. Transferred to AASC, Motor Transport Section, Parkhouse, 9 November 1918; taken on strength, Australian Motor Transport Section, Chelsea, 13 November 1918.
