Address at the time of enlistment was Northam, WA. He gave his age as 33 years when enlisting, this would make his year of birth 1872 however in other documents his age at the time of death was given as being 44 years this would make his year of birth 1871. Another discrepency is that his birth was not registered until 1877

Son of John Handford and Hannah Handford nee Cousins of Jamieson, Victoria. Brother of John Handford, Bertha Handford, Mary Handford, Alice Eleanor Handford, Sarah Louisa Handford, Dorothy Julia Handford and Lillian Handford. Lillian was later made next of kin
