OBITUARY
Mr. W. R. Eldridge
The death occurred suddenly last night at the home of his daughter of Mr. Walter Reginald Eldridge, of Foveau Street, Ainslie, well known in figure in Canberra public bodies. The late Mr. Eldridge was taken ill about eight o'clock and died within a few hours. He had given outstanding service in the Canberra Legacy Club since 1932, and had hold most offices including that of president, and was a member of the Welfare Committee at the time of his death. In addition to Legacy he was a prominent worker in many other public movements. The late. Mr. Eldridge served with the A.I.F. on Gallipoli and in France during the 1914-18 war. He came to Canberra during the period of the Federal Capital Commission. He was for many years Secretary of the Canberra Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners. He leaves a widow, two married daughters, Shirley and Margaret, and a son Warwick who is serving in the Merchant Navy.
