Biography

Son of William Archibald BLUE and Catherine Gollan nee GORDON

15 Corporal (Cpl) William Belworthy Blue, 3rd Light Horse Regiment was a 34 year old wool traveller from Strathalbyn, South Australia when he enlisted on 19 August 1914.  He was one of the first to do so as attested by his Regimental number - 15.

After embarking for overseas from Adelaide on 22 October 1914 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln, he underwent further training in Egypt.

The 3rd Light Horse Regiment deployed to Gallipoli without its horses and landed there on 12 May 1915. They played a defensive role throughout the campaign, however, Cpl Blue was medically evacuated from Gallipoli and died of meningitis in Alexandria, Egypt on 13 October 1915. He is buried in the Chatby War Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria.
