Word was received yesterday from Palestine that Sergeant Harold Purnell had been granted his commission.  Lieut Purnell enlisted as a private with the 4th Light Horse on the first day that volunteers were called for, at the outbreak of the war, and has been on activer service ever since.  He was on Gallipoli, where he was wounded and after a brief spell in hospital  remained on the Peninsula until the evacuation.  A cable yesterday announced that he had come safely through the recent severe engagements near Jerusalem.  He is a brother of Captain Kenneth Purnell on service in France an dof the late Captain Ormond Purnell.
