Son of John Beaumont and Rebecca YOUDALE
Awarded Military Cross and Bar
CAPTAIN ALFRED C. YOUDALE, third son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Youdale, of Ormond-street, Ashfield, enlisted in the Australian Light Horse soon after the outbreak of war. After a period of training at Menangle he went to Gallipoli and saw seven months' service there, reaching the rank of sergt-major. Later he received his commission on the field, but was smitten with enteric before he could take up his lieutenancy. On being invalided home he tried to regain his commission with a view to studying at Duntroon, but was turned down. Rejoining his unit at Menangle, he soon returned to Egypt, where he obtained a transfer to the Royal Flying Corps and proceeded to England for training. Here, a few months later, he was specially selected to perform flying evolutions before the King when his Majesty inspected the Australians at Salisbury Plain. He was awarded the Military Cross "for materially assisting in the capture of a strongly fortified position on the Western front. No account of the deed that won him the bar has yet been received. Capt. Youdale has three brothers on active service—Sergt. Stanley Youdale and Warrant Officer Roy Youdale, of the Army Service Corps, and Sergt. Eric Youdale, of the A.M.C.
