Adam Clark Raynes was born in Auckland, New Zealand and enlisted in March 1916. He embarked from Melbourne in October 1916 and entered France in January 1917. He was wounded in action on 4 October 1917 suffering gun shot wounds and a fractured humerus. As a result of his wounds he was returned to Australia for discharge.
