Vivian Marcusen only arrived in England during April 1917. He was killed in action in Belgium only 12 days after joining his unit.

In the Rockhampton paper it was reported, “Information was received last night that Private V. B. Marcusen, of Rockhampton, was killed in France, on November 2. His brother, Clive, was killed last year, and another brother has returned invalided from the Front, and has been discharged. At the Signalling Corps competition at Salisbury Plain Camp Private V. Marcusen secured the highest marks possible in nine events.

Vivian’s older brother, 756 Pte. Clive Henry Marcusen 9th Battalion AIF, was killed in action 20 April 1916, aged 23.

Another brother, 1825 Ernest Arthur Marcusen 9th Battalion AIF was returned to Australia 13 February 1917.

They were the sons of John Peter Marcussen of Rockhampton, Qld, their mother having passed away 8 years before the war.
