Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of William Henry and Mary Ann HALE of 35 Gatfield Street, Beaconsfield, WA

Took part in the landing at Gallipoli, and soon afterwards was erroneously reported as killed in action and mourned as dead for two months.  He went right through the Somme campaign, where he gained his promotion, and participated in every engagement of the 3rd Brigade, until wounded at Fleurs in December 1916.  On his recovery he was appointed Chief Drafting Officer, Perham Downs.  He relinquished this position to rejoin his unit in May 1917, remaining with them until he was finally killed during the Broodesinde Ridge engagement.
