Private Martin McCormack (Service No:199) enlisted in the AIF on 7 September 1914 with 13th Infantry Battalion. He embarked from Melbourne for Gallipoli on 22 December 1914 on board HMAT A38 Ulysses. Private McCormack was hospitalised in Alexandria and England, embarking for the RTA on board HT Runic on 4 May 1917 and was Discharged (medially unfit) on 10 September 1917. Private McCormack re-enlisted in the AIF on 28 February 1919 (Service No:1815) and served with the Naval and Militray Force Reinforcements - Rabaul Garrison and Kopoko Detachment - from 5 March 1919 to 6 August 1919. Private McCormack was Discharged on 22 December 1919.
Born in Sydney NSW, Martin was the fourth of six children of Martin Joseph McCormac (b1854 in County Galway, Ireland) and Sarah Ellen Kennedy (b1858 in London, England). Martin Snr was an Artilleryman in Ireland, and in 1875 was a Probationary Police Constable (No:2585) in Sydney NSW. Martin Snr and Sarah married in 1878 in Sydney NSW where they settled and raised their family - Martin was a Police Constable, Grocer (1893) and Telegraph Operator (1903).
Martin worked as a Labourer, and was in London in 1916 when he married Elizabeth Pierce (b1900 in Bracknell, Berkshire). Martin and Elizabeth settled in Sydney NSW where Martin worked as a Labourer and Locksmith - they divorced in 1931 and both remarried. In 1935 at Rockdale NSW Martin married Elizabeth Louise Gordon (nee Hart; b1890 in Sydney, NSW). Martin worked as a Locksmith and was a Stevedore when he enlisted with the ACMF in 1941. Martin and Elizabeth settled in Sydney NSW where Martin was a Stevedore/Wharf Labourer/Waterside Worker. Elizabeth died in 1955 and Martin in 1958
