Herbert William Gimbert
Herbert was born in 1888 at Newcastle NSW, his parents were James Phillip & Mary Ellen Gimbert née Dillon. Herbert was the first born son.
He married Margaret Murray in 1910 at Wallsend NSW. They had 2 sons
Prior to enlisting in 1915, Herbert was in the 4th Infantry for 2 years.
Herbert enlisted 21/9/1915 at Newcastle, he joined the 39th Battalion-D Coy.
Service number-7345
He was then married to Margaret Dillon, his occupation was a labourer.
24/4/1917 embarked from Sydney HMAT “Suffolk””
5/3/1919 returned to Australia aboard the H T “Navasa”
Herbert was in various divisions & he was in various hospitals with different problems & was absent without leave (AWOL) many times.
Herbert died 13/9/1973 aged 84 years at Newtown & is buried at Rookwood Cemetery NSW
