Timothy James Docherty was a labourer from Toowoomba, Queensland who enlisted in August 1915 and was posted to the 26th Battalion.
He embarked from Brisbane on 30 December 1915. After training in Suez (where he was charged for AWOL and was hospitalised for VD) he embarked for England was ultimately taken on strength with the 49th Battalion.
He proceeded to France on 29 September 1916.
Early in 1917, the battalion participated in the advance that followed the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line, supporting the 13th Brigade's attack at Noreuil on 2 April.
Later in the year, the focus of the AIF's operations moved to the Ypres sector in Belgium. There the battalion fought in the battle of Messines on 9 June and the battle of Polygon Wood on 26 September.
He was wounded (gun shot wound to his left leg) on 26 September 1917 and as a result was returned to Australia for discharge later that year.
He died in Toowoomba in 1950.
