War service: Western Front
Embarked Fremantle on HMAT 'Militades', 29 January 1917. Admitted to ship's hospital, 31 January 1917; discharged from ship's hospital, 1 February 1917; admitted to ship's hospital, 2 February 1917; discharged from ship's hospital, 5 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, 27 March 1917. Marched into 14th Training Bn, Codford, 27 March 1917.
Admitted to New Zealand Hospital, Codford, 24 April 1917 (measles).
Detached from unit, 7 June 1917;attatched for duty with Administration Headquarters, London, 7 June 1917.
Admitted to King George Hospital, London, 10 February 1918; rejoined Administration Headquarters, 20 February 1918. Detached from Administration Headquarters and marched out at own request, 5 April 1918; marched into No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 6 April 1918; moved out to 3rd Training Brigade, 11 April 1918; marched into 12th Training Bn, Codford, 11 April 1918.
Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 6 May 1918; marched into New Zealand Infantry Base, Etaples, 7 May 1918, and moved out to unit, 9 May 1918; taken on strength, 16th Bn, 19 May 1918.
Wounded in action and admitted to 13th Field Ambulance, 4 July 1918 (shrapnel wound, face); transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 4 July 1918; transferred to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 5 July 1918; transferred to Grantilly Castle, England, 6 July 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Plassy', 5 September 1919; disembarked 5th Military District, 17 October 1919. Discharged Perth, 25 November 1919.
