54 years ago today, on the 23rd December 1969, Lance Corporal Arthur Henry Feltis, 18th Battalion (Reg No-6781), labourer and farmer from 111 George Street, Redfern, New South Wales and Shortland Camp, N.S.W. (1941) and 50 Wilson Road, Mount Hutton, N.S.W., father of two - Kevin John (died 6.3.1938, Newcastle, N.S.W., age?, ANGLICAN 2-147. 41) and Arthur Neville (died 4.11.1982, Newcastle, N.S.W., age?, CATHOLIC 3-73A. 157), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 75. ANGLICAN 2-147. 41.

Born at Bombala, New South Wales on the 24th June 1894 to Henry and Elizabeth Mary Feltis; husband of Mary Feltis nee Cahill (married 21.6.1919 at Manchester Square, London, United Kingdom, died 3.9.1989, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 94, sleeping at CATHOLIC 3-73A. 157), Arthur enlisted on the 23rd May 1917 at Goulburn, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A72 Beltana on the 16th June 1917.
Admitted to hospital 13.8.1917 (not stated), 13.3.1919 (tonsilitis).

Wounded in action - 19.5.1918 (SW right shoulder), 23.7.1918 (bomb wound or GSW left thigh & back).

Granted leave from the 3.2.1919 to the 17.2.1919.
Commenced return to Australia 8.10.1919.

Arthur arrived home with wife Mary on the 29th November 1919, being discharged on the 16th January 1920.

Mr. Feltis’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Arthur’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Also served 2nd A.I.F. (enlisted 13.10.1939, Newcastle, N.S.W., 2nd & 8th & 20th Garrison Battalions & 21st Australian Works Coy, N67713, discharged 16.10.1945).
