Charles Henry Hunt was born in 1893 at Woonona to William James Hunt of Sherbrooke and Ruth Caroline Galloway.
His mother died in 1899 when he was only 6. His father remarried. His father married Mary Florence Palmer and they had 8 children William Lawrence, Emily May, Harold James, Arthur Ambrose, Myrtle Florence, John Frederick (Jack) a prisoner of war WW11, Lola Isabelle and Gladys Elizabeth.
Charles attended Helensburgh School and upon leaving school worked as a deck hand. He lived at Bulgo Rd Helensburgh.
He married Ethel Rankin in 1914 in Sydney.
He enlisted in the Army on 1st March 1915 at Liverpool Sydney. He was 21 years 4 months. He was 5’6 inches tall, he weighed 110lbs had a fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. His next of Kin was his father William James Hunt c/- James Foster Helensburgh NSW.
He embarked from Sydney on A40 Ceramic on 25th May 1915. He trained in Egypt from the middle of June until the middle of August.
Charles proceeded to Gallipoli on 16th August 1915. He landed at Anzac Cove on 22 August 1915 and was wounded in the right arm the same day in the offensive to take Hill 60. He was transferred to 4th Field Ambulance Anzac to Mudros.
He was invalided to England on 18th September 1915. On the 24th of September next of kin notified he was wounded. He was admitted to Hospital Church Lane Tooting SWE England on 27th September 1915.
On 13th October 1915 he was admitted to hospital in London sick with Myocarditis.
He was absent without leave from Weymouth Depot and as punishment on 27th March 1916 he forfeited 11 day’s pay.
Charles returned to Australia per H T Themistocles with Ender myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle. He embarked on 8th May 1916 from Portland. He was discharged 2nd MD Medically unfit on 16th September 1916. Charles received a pension of 15/-shillings a fortnight.
Charles received the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
In 1920 he lived at 44 Alfred St North Sydney and when his pension was cancelled as he was not now incapacitated he was living at 30 March Street Moore Park.
He returned to live near Helensburgh.
He died on 4th November 1962 and is buried at Bulli Cemetery.
