Walter John Jose

Walter Jose moved from SA to WA about 1901. Walter attended school at Koolunga, SA from 1878 to 1887. Several of Walter's sibling and father farmed in the area. Walter left SA to settle in WA with his older brother William Henry Jose, Henry's wife (Louisa Richards) and family of 5 children. The Jose family farmed at Corrigin and the Dale (near Beverley). About 1911, Walter Jose left Corrign, married and set up a business as a fish proprietor. In 1916 he enlisted in Perth. His Regimental No 4328, 43rd Btn 4th Reinforcement. 11th Brigade, 3rd Division.

Walter Jose returned to WA.

Little is known of his whereabouts until he died 31 October 1952 whilst residing at Sunset Mens Home, Nedlands. He was 80 years old. He was buried in a pauper's grave at Karrakatta. (He had no children) It is possible he suffered either mental or physical health issues. According to newspaper reports, Jose In 1949 was sentenced to 2 months gaol for assaulting his wife with a hammer. She was hospitalised for 11 days with head injuries. Several months later, Walter Jose's wife died. In May Mrs Julia Jose's body was exhumed from its grave at Karrakatta. Thankfully for Walter Jose it was found her head injuries did not contribute to her death.
