Enlisted as Willie Unwin
Son of James Unwin and Catherine Unwin nee Colbon of 'Kyabroon House', Dandenong Road, Oakleigh, Victoria.
8 October 1914 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 7th Battalion and with the rank of Private
23 January 1916 - transferred to the 2nd Field Company Engineers
17 August 1916 - wounded. Shrapnel wound to the neck
7 April 1917 - transferred to the 16 Field Company Engineers with the rank of Sapper
13 October 1917 - 2nd Field Company Engineers at Codford, England
29 December 1917 - wounded for second time. Wound to the arm
23 August 1918 - wounded for the third time. Wound to the right foot
Commemced return to Australia on 22 December 1918 aboard HT Bakara disembarking on 14 February 1919
Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
8 April 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding
