He was killed in action at the Dardanelles on 5th May 1915. At first, he was buried in an isolated grave 15 yards off the south side of Bridges Road, 120 yards from Pine, head of Gully, about one mile North North East of Anzac Cove. In all cases where members of the Australian Imperial Force had been buried in isolated graves their remains were exhumed and re-interred in the nearest Military Cemetery. ‘This work was carried out with every measure of care and reverence in the presence of a Chaplain’.
