Henry Ewart
Henry Vernon Ewart was born on 28 Jun 1888 in Williamstown, Victoria. He was a farmer in 1917 when he enlisted in the AIF at 28 yrs of age. He was allocated to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade and, after initial training in Melbourne, he embarked for England on board SS Indarra on 26 Nov 1917. In Jul 1918 Henry embarked from England to France. He saw plenty of action in France including the 2nd Battle of the Somme in Aug/Sep 1918. In December of that year he was appointed as a driver. The war was winding down when in May 1919 he was transferred as a driver to AIF Headquarters in London. After three months in that role, he was repatriated to Australia on board HMAT Ceramic on 9th Aug 1919.
