Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Thomas and Florence HOGG, The Avenue, Surrey Hills, Victoria

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hogg, of The Avenue, Surrey Hills, has set a fine example in the way of serving their country.  Out of six sons, five have joined the colors, but unfortunately word was recently received that a gap had been broken in this  splendid record. The youngest son, Gunner Charles de Burgh Hogg (Dick), was killed in action in France on December 31. He was only 20 years of age, and had been in khaki for upwards of two years, so that he was only 18 years of age when he enlisted, so  anxious was he to join his brothers in the firing line. The late Gunner Hogg was an ex-Scotch college boy. and was well known in  Surrey Hills district, where he was likewise universally popular among all classes of the community. His early demise is a most regrettable  occurrence and the utmost sympathy goes out to his sorrowing parents in their sad loss.
