He was 24 and the son of John and Jean Wood Linklater of Road Side, Stromness, Orkney, Scotland.
He is commemorated on the Stromness, Orkney, War Memorial in Scotland. He is one of three Australian casulties of that surname commemorated on the Stromness War Memorial.
