Commonwealth of Australia Gazette
14 March 1919 on page 422 at position 5

'For distinguished conduct and conspicuous gallantry whilst in charge of 6 signallers of Brigade F.O.O.'s party with Left Attacking Company during the capture of FERRIS on the night 29/30th July.  The wires between the Infantry and a forward relay Station were repeatedly cut throughout the operation, owing to heavy enemy shell fire.  It was due to the leadership, skill, gallantry and total disregard of personal safety of this N.C.O. that it was possible to maintain communication with Brigade H.Qrs. and keep them informed of the situation.  Though severely wounded in four places, Sgt. PARKINSON was still endeavouring to mend a break in the line when found by Lieut. F. SHARP the F.O.O.  Throughout his four years service, this N.C.O.'s conduct in action has always been invaluable and inspiring example to the men under him.'
