Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Herbert Dodson Lane and Kate Lane; husband of E. C. Postle (formerly Lane), of Taree, New South Wales

The late Major Lane, who was only 27 years of age, was a native of Sydney, and was educated at Armidale and in the city. In civil life, he was a partner in the firm of Messrs. Maclurean and Lane, electrical engineers, Loftus Street, but he had for a number of years been a keen military enthusiast and was associated with Colonel Holmes's regiment. He served as adjutant to the Rabaul Contingent, and later on, in June last, went to Egypt, and on into the firing line. His widow (nee Miss Lyn Maclurean), daughter of Mrs. Maclurean, of Wentworth Hotel, Sydney, to whom he was married about the beginning of the year, is at present in the country.
