Allan Elliot Green
Allan Elliot Green was born on the 28th November 1893 at Forest Range. Winkie, as he was commonly known, enlisted at the age of 22 on the 15th June 1916, having been previously rejected as unfit for the A.I.F due to having poor teeth. Green listed his mother, Mrs Alice Green as his next of kin.
Green went to France with the 37th Battalion on the 22nd November 1916. He was wounded in action in France between the 7th and the 9th June 1917, suffering a severe wound to the right thigh which resulted in Green being hospitalised in England.
Green rejoined his battalion in France on the 29th September 1917. On the 12th October 1917 he was wounded again, receiving a gun-shot wound to the leg and a fractured left wrist. These wounds necessitated further hospitalisation in England. Green was then repatriated home to Australia on the 12th May 1918 and discharged as medically unfit on the 30th August 1918.
On the 13th January 1928 the State Bank of South Australia requested a certified statement of Mr A.E. Green’s military service and discharge. Green’s declaration stated his certificate of military discharge was “stolen out of wallet with other letters and papers while in a crowd getting a ticket for the railway” – on the 18th January 1928 the requested certification was supplied to the S.A.
State Bank. {NAA: B2455, Green A.E.2086.}
